My Whole 30: Days 1-5

Day 1
I'm excited to be starting! I know it will be hard, but I think my mind and my body will benefit from this journey. I didn't have any trouble eating Whole 30 foods today. I felt lighter and energetic.

Breakfast- Scrambled Eggs with blueberries and strawberries
Lunch- salad- lettuce, tomatoes, chicken, almonds, balsamic vinaigarette
Snack- Cashew Cookie Larabar and carrots
Dinner- Tasty Indian Chicken
Snack- Cashews

Day 2
I woke up this morning feeling great and with a lot of energy. I'm only 2 days in, but I feel very at peace right now. I've been thinking about how this way of eating is sort of a gift I'm giving myself. I made the decision and commitment to do this for myself with no outside pressure. I'm excited to see what the next 29 days will hold.

Breakfast- Scrambled eggs and berries
Lunch- leftover Tasty Indian Chicken and grapes
Snack- Larabar and cashews
Dinner- Jamaican beef and sweet potatoes (from the fabulous Everyday Paleo cookbook)
Snack- cashews and blueberries

Day 3
I am incredibly tired! I was lethargic from the beginning of the day till the end of the day. I've been stomach ache free the last few days, and that's huge for me. We ate out tonight. My three year old asked if we could go to a favorite local pizza joint. Instead of suggesting we go somewhere else, I decided to take the challenge and see if there was something I could eat on the menu. To my delight, I was able to find a delicious and enormous beet, apple, and bacon salad. I'm going to bed early!

Breakfast- Larabar, blueberries, scrambled eggs
Lunch- salad with chicken, lettuce, grapes, almonds, avocado and balsamic vinaigrette
Dinner- Beet, apple & bacon salad with citrus vinaigrette

Day 4
I woke up at 5:45am with our baby this morning. He falls right back to sleep after this feeding. I usually do as well, but not today! I had so much energy. I couldn't even think about getting back into bed.

Breakfast- scrambled eggs and blueberries
Lunch- Salad with lettuce tomatoes, bacon, avocados, onions and balsamic dressing
Snack- cashews and Larabar
Dinner- fajita salad with guacamole and salsa (without sour cream and cheese)
Snack- green tea

Day 5
Today was tough. My 6 month old is going through a growth spurt and nursing ALL. THE. TIME. I woke up ravenous! Then there was a fellowship lunch after church, and all I wanted to do was sink my teeth into a delicious looking pimento cheese sandwich. I controlled myself and stuck to the butternut squash and sweet potato soup I brought. I've hit a wall. I am BORED with my food choices. My appetite has decreased but I think its mostly due to my boredom. I'm trying to hang in there. I'm going to pull out my cookbooks and look on Pinterest for more tasty recipes

Breakfast- cashews, scrambled eggs & an orange
Lunch- Butternut squash & sweet potato soup (inspired by this recipe), avocado, leftover chicken
Snack- Larabar and an apple
Dinner- Taco salad- steak, lettuce, salsa, guacamole, onions, olives, cilantro

  1. Hi Renee! I LOVE reading these posts and seeing your beautiful children!!! You are such a gorgeous woman!!! We eat pretty paleo around these parts and it can definitely be challenging at times but I feel SO MUCH BETTER when I'm making good choices. Good for you, girl!!

Not trying to be a know-it-all or nosy but I just wanted to share my experience with the Whole 30…..I attempted it last June with a 4 month old who was still nursing. I noticed a dramatic drop in my milk supply. I ended up having to add back in a little bit of grain and some dairy (glass of milk) which made a difference. You may not have this issue at all, but you were saying that your 6 month old is always hungry so just wanted to share my story.

I just re-read this and it sounded SOOOOO negative! Do the best you can but if you are feeling like your milk is dropping, do not feel defeated. Also, if you want website/recipe suggestions, let me know!!

    1. Kaley! Thank you so much for your advice! I haven't checked my milk supply but I may pump tomorrow morning to see if I'm a low. Don't worry you did NOT offend me in any way I need all the help I can get! Especially from a nursing mom who's been there!!

  2. At my costco in the refrigerated section they have organic cubed butternut squash. It's perfect since it's already cut up. Also, they have this bagged kale, brussels sprouts, greens mix. I sauté that in a pan like I would with spinach and it's delish!!
